Vertical Forestation

With the rapid increase in pollution and deforestation, the environmentalists are always thinking of how to make our environment neat and clean. With the passing days, the carbon di oxide and other harmful gases are rapidly increasing in our environment. This phenomenon has led to ozone depletion and the global warming phenomenon. The places where we see big cities were once the habitat of wildlife and trees. Now, the scientists and architects, in an effort to turn our cities again green, are joining hands to design such buildings/skyscrapers that have trees grown in them. These vertical forest buildings will occupy less space and will also be a source of clean and healthy environment.

One such effort to grow vertical forests is being made by an Italian architecture firm “Stefano Boeri Aechitetti.” They are making a 27-storey skyscraper in Milan, Italy. This building is under construction and once this building is made, trees and other vegetation will be grown over here and it will be the world’s first vertical forest. Two residential towers, in Milan, are planned to be turned into vertical forests. The heights of these buildings are 110 and 76 meters. These towers are hoping to be the house of about 900 trees. Shrubs and other flowering plants are not included in this count.

The basic concept on which these towers are being constructed is that the forests grown over here if planted on the plain land will occupy 10, 000 sq. meters. Now you imagine that such a huge area is being saved and the plantation equals to that area is being grown on two vertical towers.
The plants will clean the urban environment while producing appropriate moisture, absorbing carbon di oxide and dust particles. In the same way, they will produce tremendous amount of oxygen for the residents. These plants will also create a shelter and will protect the building from radiation and noise pollution.
For the proper irrigation of plants a process is also designed. The recycled gray water will be used for their irrigation. A filtering system will also be installed. Photovoltaic cells will be used to ensure to maintain building’s energy.

The total cost on this project is about US $87.5 million. The “firm” has a strong mind to create such green belt around the whole city.  Hopefully, after the success of this project, some other projects in other parts of the world will be initiated to make our environment clean.
