NISSAN: Mind Reading Cars Project

NISSAN motor company is recently working on a project that will be a milestone in the automobile industry. They are working on a car that will read its driver’s mind.
NISSAN was founded on December 26, 1933. Its headquarters are in Nishi-ku Yokohama, Japan. It is a popular automobile company having a net income US$ 453,6 million (2010).
NISSAN engineers are working with Swiss scientists to develop a technology that will bring man and machine closer. That will not only increase the road safety but also it will help un-skilled drivers drive safely and with confidence.
École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), scientists have been developing a technology for the wheelchairs that will read a person’s mind and will be controlled by the person’s thoughts, intentions or by the decisions that he will make in his mind. Of course, this development will be very useful for the handicaps. The engineers are thinking to bring this technology called BMI (Brain Machine Interface) on the road (with certain improvements). They are thinking to build a system that will anticipate the driver’s next move. The research team is working on the technology that will use statistical analysis to predict the driver’s next move.
Perhaps, by using environmental biometric signs these cars will make them ready for the upcoming job, the driver already has in his mind. José del R. Millán, an intellectual at EPFL who is the chief of this project said:
“The idea is to blend driver and vehicle intelligence together in such a way that eliminates conflicts between them leading to a safer motoring environment”
According to a report, the car will forestall a person’s thoughts using different sensors. These sensors/microchips will be attached to the hairs of a person. The hairs carry some sort of electrostatic charge. These sensors will be connected to the car’s computer via bluetooth. It will also use brain’s activity and sensors implanted in the car.
Researching on such a system is really a tiring process. The army is thinking to use familiar concepts in the drones, an anticipation system for drones. That system would use data from air traffic control and model how piloted planes take off and land.
Such type of car will be a very good step into the automotive industry. It will evoke other car manufacturer companies like Ferrari and Lamborghini etc. to think differently and to bring innovation in their cars. This approach will also generate good ideas in some genius minds. Once such type of car is made, the driving will be safer than ever.
